The area studied is located 5.5 km west of Moyale town southern Ethiopia and covers about 5540 sq. km. It is bounded by latitude of 4°00' N and the Ethio-Kenyan border in south and longitude of 37°35' E and 39°00' E. Precambrian high grade and low-grade metamorphic rocks, syn-to post-tectonic intrusive rocks, Quaternary (?) volcanics and Quaternary soils, constitute the region.
